1. Report of the chair
Rest of meeting was a busy meeting with lots of votes:
2. Senate Executive Committee – Adele Berlin, chair
- Senate congratulated teams who won national championship – women’s
hockey, men’s soccer, women’s basketball, and competitive cheerleading.
3. Plan or organization review committee – Jerry Miller, chair
- Revised plan or organization was approved due to changes in faculty, staff
and student population. – Minor fiddling with allocation of senators.
One amendment that for the 10 senators, to allow up to 2 grad students senators
from any one college.
4. Ad Hoc committee on student rights and responsibilities – Charles
Wellford and Nan Ratner, co-chairs
- A policy approved by the Senate in 1989 was never signed by the University
president. The Senate revised that policy and it was approved.
5. Student course evaluation implementation committee – Provost William
Destler
- Destler discussed questions for student course evaluations. Two sets of
questions addressed – used by faculty and administrators and questions
used by students. 75% student participation is needed to release student
questions to general public. Much discussion on value of specific questions.

6. PCC Committee – James Baeder, chair
- Proposal to create the Fischell Dept of Bioengineering
- Move MS and PhD from Bioengineering to new department, change BD in
Biological resources into BS in Bioengineering
- Approved
- Proposal to create a Dept of Health Services Administration
- Part of plan to make a school of public health
- Approved
- Proposal to create a Dept of Epidemiology and Biostatistics
- Part of plan to make a school of public health
- Relevant departments not informed of new department until this morning.
- In spite of late announcement, proposal was approved anyway.
- Proposal to establish a new bachelor of Music Education
- Proposal to rename BS in General Agriculture as the BS in Agricultural
Sciences and Technology
