1. Provost Destler:
- Engineering to establish a department of environmental science and
an equivalent department in College of Agriculture to be dissolved.
- HHP to evolve into a school of public health over the next few years.
An accredited Public Health school is eligible for significant NIH funding.
2. Special Working Group on Student Conduct – Nan Ratner, Chair
- Regents required a policy to handle student conduct at university sponsored
events.
- New policy allows for suspension or expulsion of students for participating
in off-campus rioting and similar events even if not convicted in court,
as long as supported by a report by a law enforcement agency.
- Policy approved.
3. Campus Affairs Committee – Charles Welford, chair
- Policy on acceptable use of information technology resources.
- One issue that was prohibited conduct was use of IT resources “unassociated
with the normal professional activities of faculty or staff without written
authorization from the university.” A question was raised about
faculty consulting and the statement was made that consulting is part
of the normal professional activity and would be allowed. But the policy
doesn’t explicitly mention that. It may be open to interpretation.
