  • Resolution to Amend the Code of Student Conduct: The Senate Student Conduct Committee recommended the following revision to a portion -- Part 9(d) -- of the Code, in response to recent off-campus incidents, and as amended during extensive discussion on the Senate floor:

``A criminal offense off campus, resulting in conviction, if such an offense would constitute a violation of this Code had it occurred on University premises. No student convicted of a misdemeanor under this section shall be subject to expulsion or full suspension unless the offense constitutes an 'aggravated violation' as defined in Part 2(a) of this Code. The University shall not pursue disciplinary action when a non-aggravated misdemeanor does not affect a substantive University interest.''

This is to replace the old Part 9(d):

`` 9. The following misconduct is subject to disciplinary action:
    ...
    (d) any act or omission committed on- or off-campus that constitues a serious criminal offense. A serious criminal offense is hereby defined as being an action which Maryland state law identifies as a felony and which indicates the student constitutes a substantial and continuing danger to the safety or property of the university or members of the campus community.''

This was voted on and passed.

  • The Senate was asked to review new language for the Council of University System Faculty Consitution, that would allow part-time members to serve; each campus would determine the qualifications and procedures for selection of representatives. No action was taken.
