Highlights of the Feb 4, 2002, meeting of the College Park Senate


  • Proposal for a Task Force on Course and Teaching Evaluations passed with dissent.

  • Recommendation to Create New Senate Constituency for Emeritus faculty passed with an overwhelming majority of 60 to 6.

  • Proposal to Discontinue the Human Resource Management Major in the Robert H. Smith School of Business passed unanimously.

  • Proposal to Change Name of Afro-American Studies Program to the Department of African American Studies (AASD) passed unanimously. This unit has been functioning as a full-fledged department already, except in name.

  • Proposal to Replace "UMCP Policy and Procedures on Outside Consultancy" and "UMCP Procedures on Conflict of Interest in Research or Development" with new Conflict of Interest/Conflict of Commitment Policy---after long discussion, including two defeated motions for an alternative action---passed by a small margin.
