Spring 2001

Time/Place: Tuesdays, 13:00-14:00, AVW 4185

This is a once-a-week discussion/reading group for students, faculty and staff who are interested in examining current and emerging topics of interest in the database and information systems research world.

All participants will be required to present and lead the discussion for one or more papers during the course of the semester. In addition, all attendees are expected to participate actively in the discussions. There will be no exams or projects. This semester, except for the regular papers, we will also have people present their own work, since the dbchat is an ideal setting for getting feedback for one's work, and practicing for conference/interview talks.

We will decide on a reading list during the first two meetings. Feel free to send any questions you have to thomas@cs.umd.edu, or just show up at the first meeting. If you want to suggest a paper to be discussed or reserve a timeslot to present your work, send email to thomas@cs.

For more information on this and other happenings in the DB group, you can subscribe to the dbchat mailing list by sending a short message to dbchat-request@cs.umd.edu. You can also check out the dbchat web page at: http://www.cs.umd.edu/db/dbchat.html.
