Greece

Greece (or Hellas) is located at the southeast end of Europe. Its population is 10.400.000 people (1991) and its area is 132000 Sq. Km. It has a famous natural beauty, ancient monuments and therefore tourism is a major income source for the country, especially during the summer.

Greece has a rich history. It begins at least 3000 years ago and some ancient findings in the Aegean islands are about 7000 years old. Remains of the greek civilization (ancient and recent) are found in the wider area of the Mediterranean Sea: Minor Asia, ancient Ionia (today's Turkish Coast), Sicely, south Italy. Greek civilization is also well known for its ancient philosophers, scientists and writers. Aristoteles, Platon, Thoukidides, Omerus, Pythagoras, Evripides and many others have contributed to the human civilization and their writings are proofs of a great era of thought, philosophy and democracy. Olympic games are also a greek offer to civilization.
