Take a Professor to lunch
Local implementation of something like
UIUC's
power lunch. This is a matching service
to allow students to go to lunch with faculty.
We'll make a couple of improvements on their system.
- When students try to arrange a lunch, they shouldn't
be forced to look through the guest directory to figure out
when the professors they are interesting in meeting are available.
Instead, students should be allowed to specify either or both
of:
- Days and times when they are available
- Professors they are interested in meeting with
From this, the system will generate this list of possible matches,
and students will be asked to select times to meet with 1-3 professors.
- Professors should be able to update their status with days on which they
will be unavailable, or allowed to change the days of the week and times
on which they are typically available.
Once students have finalized a request, you have several design options.
I think the recommended option would
be to send email to all of the professors, cc'ing all of the students,
with the request, and let the the rest of the transaction be handled outside
of the system.
Alternatively, you should try to handle some of the arrangement through
the web system. But email is probably the best system.
Jim Purtilo is the customer for this system.
