Class participation is included in grade computations in order to to encourage students to help make this course more interactive (and thus more effective and fun). The focus is on getting students to speak up in class, not on grading what they say. In addition to interactions in the classroom, students are encouraged to exchange ideas on the class newsgroup, csd.cmsc424.
