Readings
You should be reading each set of Notes in full, and
selecting some topics about which to do further readings. The readings
and images linked to on this page are additional resources that everyone
should review. Don't forget to update your
reading journal
(tentative description) when appropriate.
12/06:
Read the web page at
http://user.cs.tu-berlin.de/~nowozin/autopano-sift/technicaldetails.html
to get a general impression of how the SIFT algorithm works, and can be
used to help automate panoramic stitching. NOTE: It has been slow to
load today (Wednesday) so I put a local mirror copy
HERE.
11/13:
Read the following paper called
Prototyping for Tiny Fingers
from the Communications of the ACM, 37(4).
10/19:
Read about the
Cornell Box
- it is an example of a simulated scene that is used in some experiments
and class projects related to computer-generated images. Please
explore this site and include it in your
readings journal.
I also found the web page of a student in a class where they
generated
several variations
of the box - the images start at HW#5 on this page.
09/20:
Read this
article about exposure
and then visit each of the following pages
Edward Burtynsky's "Rock of Ages #1",
Emmet Gowin's "Danville, Virginia",
Henri LeSecq's "Chartres Cathedral",
Wrobel Photo Arts' "Cedar Falls",
and
Apollo 8's "Earth Rise"
and express your opinions on each image, paying special attention,
though not restricting your comments, to exposure and contrast.
