The PowerPoint interface consist of the following parts:
- The Title Bar
This is found at the top of the program showing the title of the presentation that is currently active within PowerPoint.
- The Menu Bar
The PowerPoint menus are similar to those found in the other Microsoft Office suite of applications like Microsoft Word or Excel. The consistent menus and layout ensures that if you are familiar with the other programs in the Microsoft Office suite then learning to use PowerPoint will be much easier.
- The Toolbars
The toolbars are graphical representations of the common functions available through the menus. They are orgainsed into the following categories: Standard, Formatting, Animation Effects, Common Tasks, Outlining, Reviewing, Visual Basic and Web. You ca choose to show or hide the respective toolbars by setting the menu: Views->Toolbars.
- The Workarea
This occupies the most amount of screen space in the PowerPoint program. This is where your presentation is displayed as you work to build it.
- The Views Bar
The views bar is found on the bottom left corner of the PowerPoint program. The 5 views give you the flexibility to work on the same presentation. Some functions are only available in a particular view. Therefore you will need to know when to switch to a particular view to work on your presentation.The Slide View lets you work on the presentation one slide at a time. This view is best suited for focusing on individual slide layout. Use the vertical scroll bar on the right or the Page Up, Page Down keys to move between slides.
The Outline View is the recommended view to organise ideas for your presentation. You can easily see how your points flow from slide to slide. It is also a good place to start when creating your presentation.
The Slide Sorter View lets you to see 2 or more slides in a single view. This view is most often used when creating transitions between slides. It is also a useful view for adding, deleting or moving slides.
The Notes Page View is useful to the presenter as he/she can use this view to key in his/her speaker notes in preparation for the presentation.
The Slide Show allows you to play the presentation as it is to be presented.
