Class Policy (Parts of this policy are taken from Jeff Hollingsworth's class policy.) Students are expected to attend and participate in all class meetings and are responsible for catching up with material they may miss due to absences of any sort. The instructor reserves the right to fail, regardless of numeric score, students who do not submit a good faith attempt to complete all work related to this course (including homeworks, quizzes, and the project). Excused absences: If you have to miss a class due to reasons approved by the university, please make arrangements with the instructor as soon as you become aware of such reasons. (That is, talk to the instructor as soon as you think you will be missing a class; otherwise, you risk not having the absence excused.) Missed quizzes: There will be no make up quizzes. A missed quiz is equivalent to one earning zero credit. If you miss a quiz due to an *excused* absence, your scores on the quizzes (relative to the class average) you attended will be pro-rated. Mid-term and final exams: Make-up exams will not be given except in fully documented cases of medical or other emergencies. Please make sure you can attend the mid-term and final exams as scheduled. Late Policy: No work will be accepted after the date and time it is due. Missing work gets zero credit. If you are unable to complete an assignment due to illness or family emergency, please see the instructor as soon as possible to make special arrangements. Office Hours and Email: The course staff is happy to answer questions during office hours, and on the class newsgroup. However, such assistance is not intended as a replacement for the class lectures. As a result, we will only see people during office hours or respond to your messages if you regularly attend class. Please use the newsgroup, not email, unless you wish to keep your comments private. Please avoid using the phone unless absolutely necessary. Re-grade policy. All requests to change grading of homework, quizzes, exams, or projects must be submitted in writing (typed) within two days of when the assignment was made available for pickup. Requests must be specific and explain why you feel your answer deserves additional credit. A request to re-grade an assignment can result in the entire assignment being re-evaluated and as a result the score of any part of the assignment may be increased or lowered as appropriate. Academic Integrity: All work that you submit in this course must be your own; unauthorized group efforts will be considered academic dishonesty. See the Undergraduate Catalog for definitions and sanctions. Academic dishonesty is a serious offense that may result in suspension or expulsion from the University. In addition to any other action taken, the grade "XF" denoting "failure due to academic dishonesty" will normally be recorded on the transcripts of students found responsible for acts of academic dishonesty. Sharing of code on programming assignments is a form of academic dishonesty.
