Required text: Silberschatz, Korth, and Sudarshan Database System Concepts 4th edition. The accompanying diskette is unnecessary to the course, if you find a copy used without the disk.
20% Midterm 30% Final Exam 10% Homework 10% SQL Assignments 30% Project
The grade curve for Undergraduate students will be determined without including grades of Graduate students taking this section.
Midterm will cover the pre-midterm lecture notes plus sections 1,2,3 (except 3.4 & 3.5), 4, 6, 7-7.7, 11 (except 11.3 and 11.9) of the text.
Final exam will cover the lecture notes for the whole semester and the text sections above plus sections 12, 13, 14, 15-15.4, 15.9, 16.1, 17.4
The project requires analysis, design, development, implementation, and documentation in three phases.
Phase I: Requirement Analysis and System Analysis Phase II: Schema and Application Program design Phase III: Implementation followed by a demo
More details about the project will be forthcoming later through the TA.
Late homework or projects are not acceptable. Hand in what you have finished. Exceptions will be made only for emergencies or medical reasons with a doctor's note.
No make-up exams. Exceptions as above.
Cheating will result in an immediate grade of XF ("failure through academic dishonesty"). This goes on your permanent transcript, and may result in suspension or expulsion from the University. This is your only warning. Don't do it.
