Abstract

ScalePlus is a set of two interfaces designed for a next generation bathroom scale. The scale is designed to not only measure weight and body fat, but to record information in an internal database and keep it for future reference. In addition, a simple interface to a computer will allow for easy retrieval and exporting of the stored information. The first interface is the one physically located on the scale which allows for users to weight themselves and record the results with a user management system. This interface incorporates design strategies for interfaces with small displays. The second interface is accessed by plugging the scale into a local area network and using a web browser to access the scale. This interface overcomes some of the deficiencies in other scales which have small displays and no good way to connect them to a computer.
