PITY IT DIDN'T LAST LONGER

Before Goosebumps there was Eerie, Indiana, kind of a Goosebumps meets the Twilight Zone kind of show, aimed at young to young adult audience, but good enough to be enjoyed by everyone. Omri Katz plays 13 year old Marshall whose family uproots him from New Jersey to the seemingly normal town of Eerie, Indiana. All manner of strangeness abounds there and only Marshall, and his ten-year old sidekick Simon seem to know about it. In each episode they encounter another strange side to Eerie. <br /> <br />You get 19 episodes in all. Only 18 were aired so the 19th is a bit of a bonus. A 20th episode was written but never filmed. Here are some of the best episodes: <br /> <br />"Foreverware" perhaps the most famous Episode. A local woman sells "foreverware" kind of like Tupperware that keeps anything fresh...forever. Marshall soon learns that the womans children have been kept children for decades by sleeping in giant foreverware beds! <br /> <br />"America's SCariest Home" - Stuck having to baby-sit Simon's younger brother on Halloween, Marshall and Simon fool around with their video camera. Unfortunately they end up trapping him in a monster movie, while a mummy runs wild in their house. <br /> <br />"Dead Letter" Guest stars Tobey maguire. While browsing the basement of the local library, Marshall finds an old letter. He opens it and a young man appears who won't leave him alone until he delivers the letter in person. <br /> <br />"The Lost Hour" - Marshal doesn't like the Indiana practice of ignoring daylight savings time, and sets his clock back an hour anyway. When he wakes up the next day, nobody's around... except some very untalkative garbage men, intent on sending him though the trash compactor. <br /> <br />"No Brain No Pain" - A strange bum is assaulted by a woman with a ray gun. distracts her until the police arrive, and then Marshall decides to help out a bum after witnessing him being attacked by a woman with a ray gun. It is difficult though, because all he does is mumble nonsense, and reassemble electrical appliances into bizarre contraptions. <br /> <br />"The Broken Record" this was the unaired show. Marshall tries to get a gloomy friend to lighten up by showing him an album from the heavy metal band Pitbull Surfers, but soon the Eerie weirdness kicks in and the quiet overachiever is turned into rebellious headbanger. <br /> <br />The picture quality is average and there's no extras..it's a Gotham release, so what do you expect. Twilight Zone...for kids

I remember watching this show as a kid and really digging. After watching the DVD set, it does bring back good memerories. It's basically Twilight Zone for kids and portrays some G rated scares and creepyness as a family moves into perhapes the weirdest town in the contry. I was amazed to see Joe Dante (Gremlins, The Howling, Explorers) directing the pilot episode. I enjoy most of his films and its no wonder I liked it as a kid. I was also surprised to see this series released on DVD as it was really a failure on its initial release. Weirdness Central

Great show - worth buying the DVD set but be warned...

First the good news: <br /> <br />"Eerie Indiana" has aged very well since its debut a decade ago on NBC. It is long overdue for a DVD release, but with mega-hits like Friends, Frasier and Seinfeld getting the lion's share of attention when they come to DVD, it's easy to see how this gem of a show got left off the studio's to-do list. <br /> <br />Now that it has finally been released on DVD it's time for fans of the show to celebrate. You get all 18 episodes PLUS a 19th episode -- the one called "Broken Record" --which never aired!! <br /> <br />Now the bad news: <br />The box set is a decidely low budget affair. The packaging, what there is of it, is bland and flimsy. The DVD cases are slimline and there is no booklet to speak of. Episode titles and descriptions are found on the back of each individually shrink wrapped case. It is a hassle to have to tear open all five discs after having wrestled with the box itself -- they went way overboard on the plastic wrap here. But that's the least of the problems... <br /> <br />THE VIDEO TRANSFER IS NOT DIGITALLY REMASTERED! The video source appears to be from a good one-inch master tape. It is a little grainy in spots, but overall very good. But it should have been remastered. <br /> <br />The sound however is not so great. It's listenable, but some of Marshall Teller's narration is obscured by loud music in the muddy sound mix. It also doesn't appear to be in stereo. It's almost like we are only hearing one channel. Not enough time was spent on the sound mix. Though two mixes are available, they sounded the same (bad) to me. And some of the scene fades don't fade out completely before the next scene starts, and that's just sloppy mastering on BMG Direct's part. <br /> <br />There are no subtitles. <br /> <br />And sadly, there is no audio commentary track featuring the creators or star(s) or anyone connected with the show that could have shed some light on what we were watching. <br /> <br />Like I said, it's low budget all the way. <br /> <br />But my nitpicking shouldn't stop you from purchasing this great show. It is doubtful we will ever see it again in any form unless there is a clamor by fans to purchase it now. Sure BMG Direct blew it, but maybe they didn't think hardcore Eerie fans would want all the bells and whistles the more popular shows are getting when they finally come out on DVD. Of course, they were wrong. We want it all. We love this show. <br /> <br />The purpose of my explaining what this DVD has and doesn't have is to forewarn you and keep your disappointment to a minimum. You will be thrilled to have these episodes, but there is no bonus material. They could have added TV commercials, a seperate music track for some of the great music, actor's bios, and a commentary track featuring the creators and stars. Careful!

If you're thinking of buying the Geneon Signature Series Version of these heart collections, DON'T! Not unless you want to pay less and don't care about the PACKAGING. When I bought it, I figured the cover would have that ugly red logo on the front.....and it did. I didn't know that it wouldn't have a reversable cover! There's nothing on the back of it! Just blank. The CD itself doesn't have a beautiful picture of Usagi, like it's supposed to. Instead, it's all red with white letters. And instead of the correct insert flap with a picture of Usagi and Mamoru, there's an insert advertising other DVDs! I wouldn't have bought these if I knew of the horrible packaging. >_< I knew there was a catch! <br />So...unless you don't care how the DVD cover looks to you, you should buy this. But for those of you who know how beautiful the REVERSABLE cover, CD, and insert flap is supposed to be, please just buy the regular DVDs. Nearing the end of the S series

Well, this is almost the end of the S series. This DVD volume mostly focuses on the arrival of the Messiah of Silence, as well as the relationship between Hotaru and Chibiusa. There are a lot of funny moments, as well as touching moments, on this DVD. However, that's only if you are watching the original Japanese verison with subtitles. The dud is just annoying. If you want to get the REAL Sailor Moon S experience, watch the original with the subtitles. Also, the extras are ok. You get a picture gallery of Sailor Mars/Rei and a bio on her. Oh yeah, and parents worried about the whole "lesbian" thing between Haruka and Michiru (Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune) can give a sigh of relief. Even in the original version, you really couldn't tell that they were lovers.....on this volume anyway. However, it should be known that they are lesbians, and that may frighten some of you, but that makes this series all the more touching. To me, they have the most heartfelt and touching relationship in ANY anime that I have ever seen, and I have seen a lot of anime in my time. So, if you're a fan of Sailor Moon, or you just want to catch up on some old episodes you might have missed, this DVD is worth every penny you pay. Very Enjoyable Series But With Some Problems

This is the third Sailor Moon series. It's about teenaged girls with magical powers who fight evil forces that threaten the world. In the S series, they fight humans who have been possessed by demons and forced to steal people's pure hearts in order to bring their master, Pharoah 90, into our universe. The Outer Senshi were introduced in this series: Uranus, Neptune, Saturn, and Pluto (though she had appeared in a few episodes of the R series). They're awesome. The original Japanese version is the best (more mature), but the English dub is also provided. Apparently, Cloverway had dubbed all of the dialogue, so you'll be able to hear English lines on here that you hadn't heard on Cartoon Network. Still, the English dub is censored and dumbed down. It's also incredibly inconsistent. Attack names (and even some transformation phrases) constantly change. Names of important objects in the series change also. Amara (Haruka) and Michelle (Michiru) are turned into "cousins", and that "fact" is constantly shoved down our throats. Still, listening to the English audio track while watching the uncensored video will provide some (unintended) laughs. I recommend watching an episode in Japanese with English subtitles first and then watching it in English. It's like getting two different series - 12-14 episodes per disc instead of 6-7. I do have some complaints. First, they used only the final version of the opening theme for all of the episodes. In the original, the new characters were added to the theme over the course of the series as they were introduced. On these DVDs, characters that haven't appeared in episodes yet are in the opening theme. That is not the way it originally aired, and it ruins the surprises. Also, on my computer monitor, there's a fuzzy line at the top of the screen during the opening theme in every episode. That means that the theme was spliced in. Were they too lazy to put the English credits over each version of the opening theme? Why did they have to put English credits there at all, anyway? They could have put them in the closing credits. I don't like the new English voice actors for Moon, Mercury, and Venus, but at least the original Mars is back! I also like Rini's new voice actor. I still think that Rini's an annoying character, though. The next episode previews were not included. The only extras are profiles on some of the Senshi/Scouts and some of the earlier opening themes from the S series. The DVD covers are reversible, so you can pick your favorite characters to be displayed. This Uncut Version is great! Six great episodes in one DVD that you'll truly enjoy! One of my favorites is "The Battle in a Demonic Dimension!The Sailor Soldier's Bet" because its funny and interesting to watch, like its funny how the Sailor Scouts play all these games just to get out,and I really enjoy watching this episode in japanese. The story in depth

This video has a great and particularly emotional trio of episodes. In the first one, Dr. Tomoe's slightly geeky assistent (her name's either Annete of Mennete) adds to many items in the Heartsnatchers oven and creates a warp in the house while Rini and Hotaru are inside playing cards, making a strange, funny, and confusing adventure for the Scouts when they come to the girls' rescue. The second episode, Rai, Michelle, and Trista keep having disturbing dreams of the end of the world and the Soverign of Silence, who may be Hotaru! Finally, the last episode is definately a tear jerker at the beginning for senseitive Moonies, dealing with Rini and Hotaru's relationship. The rest is the outer Scouts search for info on Hotaru and Dr. Tomoe's past. This original uncut version is really cool, with a beautiful ending theme at the end (sung in Japanese). The only bad thing about this video is you have to buy the one following it because the final episode just cuts you off! But all in all, this video is great.
