International Workshop on Open Hypermedia Systems 2002 : Core Concepts & Research Directions
The 2002 Workshop on Open Hypermedia Systems (OHS2002) will be held in conjunction with Hypertext 2002, the premier ACM conference on hypertext and hypermedia.

This workshop will be open to all aspects relevant to Open Hypermedia Systems but with a clear focus on the following topics:
Participants
Workshops on Open Hypermedia Systems have taken place at Hypertext Conferences since 1994. Thus, this workshop series is well known and established in the community and in the past has had a constant number of approximately 20 participants (with its high in 2001 with 30 participants). In order to allow people to present their ideas and discuss them with others in sufficient depth the number of participants will be limited to 20.
The workshop is a systems workshop. Hence, both researchers and practitioners working with middleware for hypermedia and Web based systems are the main target audience. Participation in the workshop will be by submission of a short position paper (of two to five A4 pages). In case there are more submissions than feasible for a one-day workshop those contributions most appropriate to the workshop theme will be selected for presentation. Authors will get feedback for their contributions and will be required to include the feedback in their final version of the paper.
It is planned to publish post-workshop proceedings as a technical report at the FernUniversitaet Hagen.
Activities Planned
The workshop is to be organised by splitting it into sessions. Sessions will consist of brief position statements and discussions. A closing session will summarise the outcome of the workshop and determine any further activities to be performed. Furthermore, it is planned to briefly report on the outcome to the OHSWG group and to all interested hypertext researchers via a summary statement in the SIGWeb newsletter.
Submission Details & Authoring Guidelines
Submit your position paper not later than May 6th, 2002 encoded as PDF or HTML via e-mail to dem@ecs.soton.ac.uk. Submitted papers will be refereed; after your presentation at the workshop you will have the possibility to update your paper and submit a final version. All accepted position papers will be published in a technical report at the FernUniversitaet Hagen.

David Millard is a Research Fellow in the Intelligence, Agents and Multimedia Group at the University of Southampton. He has participated in the Open Hypermedia Workshops and Working Group meetings since 1997, where he was a key contributor to the OHP suite of protocols and the development of the Fundamental Open Hypermedia Model (FOHM).
Joerg Haake is chair for distributed systems at FernUniversitaet Hagen, the German distance learning university. He is actively participating in Hypertext conferences since 1991 and is engaged in OHS workshops since 1996.
Sigi Reich is the head of SunTREC (Sun Technology and Research Excellence Center) at Salzburg Research, Austria. He has participated in the Open Hypermedia Workshops and Working Group meetings since 1996. Over the last few years Sigi Reich has been involved in aspects of interoperability of Open Hypermedia Systems, in particular the development of the Open Hypermedia Navigational Interface (OHP-Nav) and the Fundamental Open Hypermedia Model (FOHM).
