Research opportunities for undergraduates

The Computer Science Department has numerous research opportunities for undergraduate students, where they can work closely with research mentors in compatible fields of interest. These include:

Honors projects - research projects that will allow students to graduate with honors.

Gemstone projects - interdisciplinary research projects in the university's Gemstone program.

Special-topics (CMSC 498) courses - check the university schedule to see if any of these are currently being offered.

REU projects - sometimes our faculty will hire students to work on research projects during the summer, with funds provided by the National Science Foundation's Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program.

SEAM (Software Engineering at Maryland) - live project experiences in an industrial setting.

Other projects - these can be whatever arrangements are worked out between a faculty mentor and a student.

Here is a list of some of our recent undergraduate research projects.
