All of the department's printers are listed in citrix. If one is missing please email staff@cs.umd.edu.
How do I access a unix drive under citrix?
(or, how do I add drive mappings?)
By default, the A: drive is mapped to your home directory on
the Unix side. Regular samba/network drive mappings also work
just as they would on any other Windows machine. You can also add other mappings
using the wfcmgr program:
- Run wfcmgr
- Click Option->Settings
- Select Drive Mapping from the top left pulldown tab
- Make sure Enable Drive Mapping is selected at the bottom
- Decide what drive letter you want to use for the mapping, and click the
Enable button next to it
- Type the Unix-side path you would like to map in the box next to the
drive letter
- Click the Eyeglasses to disable/enable read privileges, and the Pencil to disable/enable write privileges
- Click OK
Why don't my MS Word Documents save properly?
Due to a limitation in the protocol used by Citrix, it is
not possible to save Word documents to mapped drives on the
Unix side. There are two ways around this: (Loosely
taken from MS knowledge base article Q212370)
- Save the document on the network drive in a different file
format.
-
Save the file to the local hard drive and move it to the
network drive. In the CS setup, the "local" drive will be the
W: drive, which is a mapping to the user's windows home
directory (profiled directory). Alternatively, the file
could be saved on the desktop and moved from there.
-
Map a network drive to the Unix side as you would on any other Windows
machine, (with Samba) and save the file to the mapped drive.
There are two color depths for Citrix, 16 and 256 colors. Greater
depths are not supported due to protocol and bandwidth limitations.
To change your color depth, do the following:
- Run wfcmgr
- Click Entry->Properties
- Select Window from the top left expandable menu
- Check the 256 under Window Colors
- Click OK. The next time you run citrix, you will be in 256 color mode.
- Run wfcmgr
- Click Entry->Properties
- Select Window from the top left expandable menu
- Check select your window size on the right
- Click OK. The next time you run citrix, your window size will be updated.
You can install any software that does not require system modifications. (i.e.
registry changes, etc.) That is,
anything that can be run standalone out of your own home directory or off of a
mapped drive. If there is any other software that you would like to have
installed, contact staff@cs. Note that not all software will be compatible
with Citrix.
