Creating a forum

Only administrators can create forums. If you are not an administrator, email your forum creation request to staff@cs.umd.edu.

  1. Access the forum administrative interface at https://forum.cs.umd.edu/admincp.
  2. Click on Add New Forum along the left menu bar.
  3. Enter the Title and Description for this forum.
  4. Set the correct Parent Forum. For classes, this will be something like Spring 2006.
  5. The default options should be fine unless any special access restrictions were requested.
  6. Scroll to the bottom and click Save.
  7. After saving, you should see the Forum Manager screen. If not, select it from the left menu bar.
  8. Assign the appropriate person or persons (generally a prof or TA) as the moderator by selecting Add Moderator from the Moderators pull-down box for you new forum. Note that the person's forum username may well be different than their regular CS username.
  9. Make sure the classes (or other forums) are showing up the correct order by adjusting the Display Order. The display order is only significant among forums grouped within the same subforum.
