Welcome to the Department of Computer Science at the University of Maryland, College Park. This is an introductory guide to the computer systems available to the department's graduate students, faculty and staff. The focus is mostly on the department's specialized subsystems and idiosyncrasies; We assume that you have a basic user-level understanding of how to function in a UNIX environment.

Please note that the Computer Science Department's systems staff has no control over WAM, GLUE, GRACE, or the other computer systems on campus outside of the cs.umd.edu and csic.umd.edu domains. We cannot answer questions about those systems.
Please also note that the systems staff consists of human beings who are a limited resource. They are not around 24 hours a day, seven days a week, or over long holiday weekends. Understand that requests that are made during weekends, holidays, or in the wee hours of the morning will take longer to process than those made at two o'clock in the afternoon on a Tuesday.
