The CS department does not generally permit user CGI scripts on the department web server, for security reasons. However, if you have scripts that are necessary to your research efforts, we may review your scripts for security loopholes and install them for you. This is a time-intensive process and will only be done after the scripts have finished development and testing and are ready for permanent installation. This will also only be done for clearly work-related scripts. Please don't ask us to install counters or other frivolous scripts to spruce up your personal web pages.
Development can be done by setting up your own apache (or other) webserver in your home directory and running it on a high port (above 1024) that isn't already occupied. Note that the department firewall will prevent external sites from accessing this server. If you need the server to be visible for research purposes, contact staff@cs.umd.edu.
