Setting up mail clients

These instructions will help you set up your mail client to use the CS department's SSL IMAP and Authenticated SMTP servers. SSL-IMAP will become the mail protocol of choice for departmental users as of 4/3/2006, when POP and unencrypted IMAP services are discontinued. Authenticated SMTP will allow you to access our SMTP servers even while traveling.

In order to use the department's authenticated SMTP service, you must have a department Kerberos password and an email client that supports both IMAP over SSL and SMTP over SSL. Remember that it's very possible that your outgoing (SMTP) password and your incoming (IMAP) password will be different. If you are having problems with this, contact staff@cs.umd.edu.

You should also import the CSD root certificate to allow your computer to trust certificates signed by the CS department. For detailed setup instructions, select your preferred mail client from the list below.
