Setting up the Shrew VPN client for Windows
Note: We have tested this with Windows 7 Professional 64-bit but it should work for any version of Windows (2000, XP, Vista and 7)
Download the Shrew VPN Client
As of writing this FAQ, the latest stable release is 2.1.5
Right-click on CS Profile and save the file to your computer as vpn.cs.umd.edu.vpn. We also have directions for manually configuring the client here
Start the client by running "Access Manager"

Click on File-->Import

Select the downloaded profile. In this case, I have downloaded it to my desktop. Click "Open"

Your client should now be able to connect by selecting "vpn.cs.umd.edu.vpn" in the client and clicking on Connect

Once a connection is made you will be prompted for your username and password. This the same as when you connect to a junkfood computer or webmail

Creating the CS Profile manually:
Start the client by running "Access Manager"

Click on the Add button

From the General tab, enter the information as below:

Now click on the Authentication tab
- Change the "Authentication Method" to "Mutual PSK + XAuth"
- Change the "Identification Type" to "Key Identifier"
- Type the "Key ID String" as "csd-kerb" without quotes

Now click on the credentials tab and type the "Pre Shared Key" as "fishyfishy" without quotes

Click Save
You are ready to connect
