Technology that allows users who know one language to search large collections of text or recorded speech expressed in another language is maturing rapidly. Researchers have traditionally focused on fully automated systems; thus little is known about how users and systems might interact to achieve better cross-language search results. The goal of this workshop aims to identify the challenges to evaluating interactive systems. We plan to bring together resear-chers from different communities to address these evaluation issues, to suggest initial focus areas, and to work towards defining an evaluation framework that the combined community can agree upon.
