Visiting Scholars
We welcome visiting graduate students and faculty to join the HCIL for 3 to 6 month visits. This is an informal program and is done on an individual basis - and thus needs the cooperation from a faculty member. The essential requirements are:
-
Graduate level students or faculty on sabbatical welcome
-
Experience in Human-Computer Interaction
-
Good enough English language skills to perform productive work in an English-only environment
-
Funds to pay all expenses (travel and living) while at UMD
Finding a faculty sponsor that is interested in working with the visitor on a specific project. We prefer the visitor to join an existing project rather than starting a new one, or working on the visitor's project. This way, we can ensure that the visitor has good reason to interact with a group of people here.
We provide office space and computer access, access to University resources (such as library, gym, etc.), help with applying for a visa, and of course, the opportunity to join a group of researchers.
For more information about visiting from other countries, see the website of UMD's International Education Services.
