Much like other user interface pioneers, Bill
Buxton began his career in the arts and then found his way into Computer
Science. After receiving a BA in music, Buxton pursued an MS in
Computer Science specializing in computer music. A true researcher and
designer of human aspects of technology, Buxton supports creative activities
like film-making, music and graphics coupled with the power of modern
computing. Buxton's initial work with computer-based tools for music
composition and performance led him into the field of human-computer
interaction. His early interest in gesture recognition with computers
led him to form Alias|Wavefront, with the cutting-edge graphics company SGI,
Inc. as its parent company. Alias|Wavefront are the designers of Maya,
a graphics studio for filmmakers and graphics artists. Most of the
award-winning films and video games have been developed with the help of
technology from Alias|Wavefront. |
