Dr. Hiltz is a member of the Information Systems department at the New Jersey Institute of Technology.  Her research areas include computer-mediated communication, human-computer interaction, computers and education, computer-supported cooperative work and group-decision support systems.  The Virtual Classroom is a product of her research in computer-mediated communication.  With the help of her colleague, Murray Turoff, they have pioneered a teaching and learning environment constructed in software.  The goal of this project is to provide a collaborative learning effort amongst students and teachers for the enhancement of education.  It is her goal to provide a set of guidelines for educational institutions when incorporating such software into the classrooms.
