It takes two. Jobs met Wozniak while both
were employed for Hewlett-Packard and together they started Apple Computer,
Inc. that would revolutionize computing. Jobs recognized early on that
Wozniak was the better engineer, so Jobs became CEO and directed the company
towards success. Unfortunately, Jobs' greatest weakness was his
inability to listen - friends, employees and consumers. When Jobs was
ousted for CEO by John Sculley, he quit shortly after and started Next Inc.
Jobs wanted to create the ultimate computer driven by his vision of better
software developed through object-oriented programming (OOP). The "NextStep"
computer was a disaster and Jobs shifted the focus of his company towards
software in 1993. Apple had fared no better and Sculley resigned the
very same year. It was only a couple years later that Pixar, also led
by Jobs, created the box-office hit "Toy Story". Next flourished well
for the next few years until Apple bought them in 1997 and Jobs with it.
Since then, Apple has given itself a fresh start with Jobs at the helm.
Jobs predicts the new revolution will be in software and continues to lead
his company into the future. |
