You can search the American Memory digital collections several ways.

Quick Search (which can be specified on the left side of this page) searches words or phrases in ALL searchable text.
Enhanced Search (button on the left of this page) allows you to be more specific about what to search for, how and where.

By default the search is done on the entire American Memory. But there are many benefits in searching individual collections as more collection-specific attributes become available for you to specify (e.g. a photograph collection can let you specify that you want color photos if this attribute is available for the collection.) You can select one or more collections in the Browse and Select Collections.In all searches you can type simple phrases, names, titles, etc.
