Mrs. Dawes was the wife of Charles G. Dawes, the first director of the U.S. Bureau of the Budget and, in 1925, winner of the Nobel Prize for Peace for his work as ch ief architect of the Dawes Plan, which reorganized the German war reparations debt to the allied nations to make it more possible for Germany to pay. Dawes was Coolidge's vice president in the second term, 1925-1929.
