PhotoFinder allows users to manage a Personal Photo Library containing multiple collections of photos. Each collection may have a description, date, and representative photo. Each photo may have a list of identifiable people. A photo may be in more than one collection. PhotoFinder users can browse the Library Viewer window and select a collection for display in the Collection Viewer window, which will fill with thumbnails of the photos. When users select a thumbnail, a larger size image appears below in the Photo Viewer window with a list of the people in that photo. PhotoFinder users can also produce a Slide Show by selecting and dragging a group of thumbnails into the Photo Viewer window.

The PhotoFinder Startup Screen gives the user the option to create a new library or browse an existing one.
