The Elastic Windows approach is evaluated by a controlled experimental study and user performance is compared with the current independent overlapping windowing systems. Analyzed by statistical methods, the experimental data reveals that users outperformed current systems in medium and complex situations for tasks such as job specification reviewing and programming.

The Elastic Windows approach is also evaluated analytically by a general model of information management interfaces based on the presentation hierarchy. Based on the dynamic and static aspects of this model, Elastic Windows is shown to be scalable, accessible and viscous.
