Title Advanced Organization and Coordination
Statement of Age I state that I am over 18 years of age and wish to
of Subject participate in a program of research being conducted
by Prof. Ben Shneiderman at the Graduate School,
University of Maryland, College Park, Department of
Computer Science.
Purpose The purpose of this research is to measure user
performance managing large collections of information
using a new information management computer interface.
Procedures Subjects will first read a brief description of the
experiment and will be allowed to ask questions. Then
they will be trained for 30 minutes in using the interface
for similar tasks that will be given in the experiment.
Then they will be timed and observed for task completion
and error rates. Subjects will also be given a subjective
satisfaction questionnaire. The total duration of the
experiment will be less than two hours per subject.
Subjects will only attend one session.
Confidentiality All information collected in the study is confidential,
and my name will not be identified any time.
Risks There are no risks to subjects with the experiments. The
subjects will only operate standard computer equipment.
Benefits: I understand that the experiment is not designed to test
Freedom to me personally, but that the investigator hopes to learn
Withdraw and Ask more about the performance of users using their interface
Questions in managing large collections of information. I understand
that I am free to ask questions or to withdraw at any time
without any penalty.
