Principles

Elastic Windows is designed based on the following principles:

Based on the taxonomy described in Chapter 2, the Elastic Windows approach uses a two-dimensional hierarchical organization, where users can use nominal, spatial, visual and temporal attributes to access information in multiple quantities. Manipulation of the presentation is based on the elastic-sheet metaphor allowing users to manipulate the presentation using a structure-based technique, where users can operate on windows at any location in the hierarchical window structure.
