Aravind Srinivasan has recently been named a fellow by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). Election as a fellow of AAAS, the world's largest general federation of scientists and the publisher of the journal Science, is an honor bestowed upon members by their peers. The AAAS says these individuals have been elevated to this rank "because of their efforts toward advancing science applications that are deemed scientifically or socially distinguished".
Professor V.S. Subrahmanian will be giving a talk, "Selected Research in Probabilistic Logics".
The paper "Using Histograms to Better Answer Queries to Probabilistic Logic Programs" by Matthias Broecheler, Gerardo Simari and V.S. Subrahmanian has been named the recipient of the Best Student Paper Award at the 2009 International Conference on Logic Programming to be held in Pasadena, CA in July 2009.
Ugur Kuter, Florent Teichteil-Konigsbuch, Guillaume Infantes developed a new planning algorithm called RFF which won the Fully Observable Probabilistic track of the 2008 International Planning Competition.
