Purpose
In August 1998 the President's Information Technology Advisory Committee (PITAC) submitted an Interim Report emphasizing the importance of software to the nation and calling for a significant new federal investment in software research. An NSF workshop subsequently brought together representatives of a broad segment of the software community to discuss the software research agenda. Workshop participants included researchers and developers from geographically diverse organizations in academia and industry. This report discusses the findings and recommendations of this NSF workshop committee.
