Query Refinement, Screen 1

This is the initial screen of the Query Refinement panel.

The section in the upper left is a "starfield" of intervals. Each interval represents one dataset. The length of the interval represents the period that the data was collected. The color represents the processing level. A key for processing level appears to the right of the starfield. The vertical axis of the starfield represents the size of the datasets: larger datasets are at the top.

The top right section is a map that displays the spatial extent of a dataset. In future prototypes, users will be able to further refine the spatial component of a query through interactions with the map.

The middle section lists additional attributes of the datasets. Each column is one attribute, with the valid values listed. At the bottom there is a table which lists the remaining attributes of the datasets.

The query is refined by selecting attribute values in the middle panel, or by selecting processing level(s). In a future version of the demo, temporal and spatial refinements will also be possible.
