Our Plans for 4.1
In brief, and contingent on securing support for the students, we plan
to work on:
- Allowing the customization of Treemap toward simpler versions for 1st time
users (by allowing modes in which the advanced features are turned off)
- Improving the directory mapping (faster mapping and possibly showing web links when appropriate)
- Handling time series (finding the best way to see what has changed is a challenge)
NOTE that the .tms format is likely to change in 4.1.
[added 9/23/2003 6pm]
Especially, the .tms file format to save the settings of mapped
directories is going to change. The changes may or may not affect
you. In the best case, you will be able to read in the old .tms files
into Treemap. If that is the case, it is stringly recommended that
you read all of your old .tms files and resave them using
"Save Settings" from the "File" menu. In the worst case, you may not
be able to read in your .tms files at all.
If your .tms files are important,
then we strongly encourage you, if you could, to keep a note
in order to help you remember later what settings you applied to your
raw data so that you could replay those actions in Treemap 4.1 and
be able to save the settings with the new .tms file format in 4.1.
