Faculty:

Dr. Lise Getoor

getoor AT cs.umd.edu

AVW3217

http://www.cs.umd.edu/~getoor

Research Interests: My general research interests are in machine learning, reasoning under uncertainty, databases and artificial intelligence. Other topics of interest to me include: data integration, database query optimization and approximate query processing, entity resolution, information extraction, utility elicitation, planning under uncertainty, contraint-based reasoning, abstraction and problem reformulation. The theme of my research is building and using statistical models of structured, semi-structured and unstructured data to do useful things.

Students:

Mustafa Bilgic

mbilgic AT cs.umd.edu

AVW 3228

http://www.cs.umd.edu/~mbilgic

Research Interests: I am interested in learning in relational domains in general. In particular, I am interested in learning and inference in domains where some of the information (attribute & relation) is missing and costly.

Samuel Huang

AVW 3212

http://www.cs.umd.edu/~srhuang

Research Interests: My current research interests involve Machine Learning and Data Mining, especially as applied to Bioinformatics and Computational Biology.

Louis Licamele

licamele AT cs.umd.edu

AVW 3228

http://www.cs.umd.edu/~licamele

Research Interests: I am interested in Machine Learning, Data Mining and Bioinformatics, with a focus in mining high-throughput data using machine learning methods. Specific tasks that I have worked on include link prediction and classification, entity classification and resolution using relational data, and domain specific feature construction.

Galileo Mark S. Namata Jr.

namatag AT cs.umd.edu

AVW 3228

http://www.cs.umd.edu/~namatag

Research Interests: My current research is in the identification of entities and social network properties from email archives. Specifically, I've been looking into identifying underlying hierarchies and roles from email traffic.

Research Interests: Machine learning, modeling trust, reputation systems, privacy-preserving data mining.

Alumni:

Indrajit Bhattacharya, graduated with a Ph.D. degree

indrajit AT cs.umd.edu

AVW 3228

http://www.cs.umd.edu/~indrajit

Research Interests: I work on probabilistic models and clustering algorithms for resolving uncertain references to real world entities using relationships. I also work on algorithms for resolving entities efficiently for query answering.

Rezarta Islamaj, graduated with a Ph.D. degree

rezarta AT cs.umd.edu

AVW 3228

http://www.cs.umd.edu/~rezarta

Research Interests: I am interested in bioinformatics, machine learning and data mining. I am interested in modeling and generating domain-appropriate specific features that can be employed for accurate sequence prediction. I work on studying, understanding and modeling "splice-site prediction" on pre-mRNA sequences aiming for a higly-accurate "Gene-Finding" process.
