Objective

To practice CSS fundamental constructs.

Overview

For this project you will write a style sheet (p1.css) for an html file we have provided (p1.html) . An snapshot of the web page you are expected to have after creating your style sheet can be found at: Web Page Image.

Before you start implementing the web page, download the following zip file: p1.zip.  This file has a folder named p1 which contains four files (two images, one html file, and one css file).  The p1.html file is the page you will apply styles to, and the p1.css. file represents the style sheet you are expected to complete. 

Grading

• (10 pts) Style sheet validates according to http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/
• (10 pts) Correct indentation
• (80 pts) Style requirements satisfied.

Your style sheet should generate a web page that closely resembles the Web Page Image we have provided.

Requirements   

• You cannot modify in any way the p1.html document.
• You can use any colors for the link to the Dept of Computer Science.
• You may not use any authoring tool (e.g., frontpage, dreamweaver, etc.) which generates the css code for you.
• Your web page must correspond to the web page image we have provided at the end.  Do not add anything extra.
• You must implement the web page by yourself.
• Do not post your project in a web site (people will see your code).
• Make sure you view your code using Firefox 2.0 (that is the environment we will use to grade your project)

Submission

To submit your project, follow these steps:

1. Add your name to the top of the css file (using a css comment).
2. E-mail the p1.css file (as an attachment) to cllewis@umd.edu    Use as subject "Passport Intermediate Project #1". We only need the p1.css file; do not send the rest.
