Department of Computer Science Now Hiring Part-Time Student Systems Administrators

The Department of Computer Science is now looking for first or second year UMCP undergraduates, for the position of Student Systems Administrator. We are hiring for part-time (15-20 hrs/wk) positions.

You *must* be able to start work this summer in order to be considered, and you must be a currently-enrolled UMCP undergraduate. Substantial experience is not required for this position, though a basic familiarity with Windows and Unix systems is necessary.

The successful applicant should be enthusiastic about learning new technology, and should have an instinct to fix what is broken and improve what feels inefficient. The ability to learn independently and work without supervision is a must. Troubleshooting skills and experience are a big plus.

We maintain a large network of Redhat Linux, Microsoft Windows, and Sun Solaris systems for use by faculty, staff, and graduate students in the Department of Computer Science.

Position Responsibilities:

Basic UNIX and Microsoft Windows system administration

This is an excellent opportunity to learn how UNIX, Windows, and networked systems work and interact, and get real work experience in the Information Technology field.

If you have left a resume or application with the department in the past, please submit a current one to be considered for the position at this time.

PLEASE SUBMIT YOUR RESUME ELECTRONICALLY. Email it to studentjob@cs.umd.edu. ASCII, PDF, Postscript, or Microsoft Word format resumes are preferred. All resumes must be received by midnight Saturday, April 30.

Interviews will be conducted throughout late April and early May, and we expect new hires to be able to begin work by the beginning of June. Your schedule will be flexible enough to accommodate classes and exams, but you *must* be able to work a regular schedule of at least 15 hours a week between 8 am and 6 pm Monday through Friday, in order to be useful.
