CS Graduate Student ICPC Team Heads to Morocco

On Saturday May 16th,  Professor Mohammad Hajiaghayi  will be leading a team of four graduate students in the ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) World Finals in Marrakech, Morocco.  Sina Dehghani, Soheil Ehsani, and Xi Yi will be competing with 128 teams from all over the world compete to solve “eight or more complex, real-world problems, with a  grueling five-hour deadline.”  Dehghani, Ehsani, and Yi will work together with a single computer as well as race against the clock and other teams in what the contest calls a “battle of logic, strategy

Neil Spring and Aaron Schulman win awards at SIGCOMM

On August 19th, 2014, during the ACM SIGCOMM meeting in Chicago, two members of the Department of Computer Science received awards for their contributions to the field of Networking and Data Communication. 

Professor Neil Spring was awarded the ACM SIGCOMM Test of Time Award for his paper with Ratul Mahajan and David Wetherall on "Measuing ISP Topologies with Rocketfuel."  His paper, published in 2004, has been recognized for its ongoing, significant contribution to research conducted in this field.

Student Team Wins ACM Programming Contest

A team representing UMD has won the ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest for the Mid-Atlantic region, placing first in a field of 173 teams.

The team is comprised of students Shangfu Peng, Ang Li, and Hossein Esfandiari. The win qualifies them to advance to the world-final competition to be held in Saint Petersburg, Russia in Summer, 2013.

Two other UMD teams also placed well. Team #2 of Milad Gholami, Melika Abolhassani and Anirudh Bandi placed 7th. Team #3 of Mandeep Bedi, Luke Valenta, and David Karesh placed 9th.
