HOW DO “EF” AND “CMM” LEVEL-5 COMPARE?
The fundamental difference in philosophy between CMM and EF is that:
- CMM is driven by the idea that there are a set of processes (KPAs)
that will allow an organization to improve its software development capabilities
>> You cannot improve unless you have these processes in place
>> Goal is good management process, and all else will folow from that
- EF is driven by an understanding of the local organization; the problems and successes with regard to process and product characteristics and goals
>> You cannot improve until you understand the nature of your software business
>> Goal is understanding the relationship between process and product (understanding ‘how to’ improve product via process)
>> Assumes measurement, experimentation, and learning
