Describe three major advances in the field of HCI over the
past ten years that have had significant societal impact on an
international scale. Discuss the positive and negative aspects of these
impacts. For each negative impact, describe one thing that might been done
differently to mitigate that problem. For the purposes of this essay, you
can include any computer-based technology with a significant human
interaction component.
Presentation: Your essay must be no more
than two printed pages in 11 point type, and a minimum of 1 inch margins.
(UPDATE 2/1/09: The essay should be single space.)
Grading: You will be graded on the depth of your
thinking, the case you make for the advances you choose, the objectivity
of the aspects of the impacts you describe, and the quality of your writing.
Turn-in: Paper printout of essay, beginning of
class.
