Like beliefs, observations are informational attitudes; however unlike
belief, the justification for the information in an observation is
first-hand experience. By representing observations explicitly,
agents can distinguish between knowledge that was obtained from first-hand
experience and that was obtained from another agent or by
deduction. Such a distinction can help agents deal with conflicts in
their information content by choosing one informational attitude over
the other.
