PINK FLOYD

T-SHIRT THREAD

...Hi, folks!...

Ok, I took it and sorted all our T-shirt talks into some document which contains the whole load of our ideas.... Unfortunately I seem to miss a few first posts, but as I recall there was nothing in them that wouldn't be otherwise repeated... If I missed something, just add your 2 pennies here...

So the questions under consideration are

  1. Do we need Echoes T-Shirt?
  2. Is it going to be Echoes Tee or we let alt.dot people in ?
  3. How much do we want to pay for it ?
  4. What is going to be on this T-shirt?
  5. Will our T-Shirts be colored ?
  6. What color ?
  7. What material ?
  8. What quote do we put there ?
  9. What is the design ?
  10. Which Echoes address to put
  11. Special Comments ...
  12. WHO WILL TAKE IT OVER ???

Apart from that, the following T-shirt related stuff is available now:

1. Do we need an Echoes T-Shirt ?

And so far there were only "yes" answers. I think it is decided

2. Is it going to be Echoes Tee or we let alt.dot people in ?

As Gerhard and a few more pointed out - it should be Echoes T-shirt, however, if someone else wants it - ok...

3. How much do we want to pay for it?

James Haword sez: " Oh, and I'm willing to pay 15 quid + p&p for the finished product"

Gerhard (again) wants to pay $25

I would not mind if we go $5 down, and make it $20 or less

4. What is going to be on this T-shirt ?

It is generally agreed among all who posted about it, that T-shirt should include some echoes-related email address, a PF-related picture and a quote. There is still a discussion whether "Pink Floyd" should be written on it.

5. Will our T-shirts be colored ?

Yes - we all say.

6. What color?

Gerhard - black

Me - black is ok as a default, but the color should be chosen when we decide on the design.

Jon Rosenberg - btw, green is the colour of the T-shirt.

7. What material ?

A recently new question, raised after the "memorandum" was posted to echoes.

hiett@alpha.caer.uky.edu wrote:

One item that should be added to a real ballot is:

100% cotton or %50/%50

many folks like me can't wear synthetic fabric which means %50/%50 just plain doesn't get purchased. the alternate is that cotton shrinks bad and a small person like me still needs an XXL after a few washings.

I responded:

Well, looks like you've answered your own question.... 100% cotton in more suitable... and it doesn't actually shrinks THAT bad... XL is some kind of "one size fits all" standard....

8. What quote should we put there ?

Here are the proposals

A few quotes that became folklore on Echoes. Also, for the third one, I just couldn't find the author (mail me please, whoever you are)...

From: James Hayward :

From: andre@iag.tno.nl (Andre Terhorst)

From Gerhard, Ray O'Hara, and (I think, sorry if I got messed up again) Ray Botelho:

(spoken by Ray O'Hara)

As for the front, "Pink Floyd, first in Cyberspace" gets my vote.

From: "Bleating and Babbling...."

From: Stacy Hawkins

Front side of shirt:

I am you and what I see is...

From: szavada@adrian.adrian.edu (SCOTT)

"and what exactly is a dream

and what exactly is a joke"

From: Charlie Saeger (saeg0002@maroon.tc.umn.edu)

On the front: "Which one's Pink?"

On the back: "And who will deny it's what the fighting's all about?"

From: Dennis.Howie@emich.edu (COB/COT Development Officer)

ECHOES

You've got to be crazy,

Gotta have a real need

From: Chip McDonald

How about on the front have "there is no dark side of the moon....."

and on the back

"...but there is echoes@fawnya.tcs.com"

A new one. From: The Powers That Be (wfp8934@is2.NYU.EDU)

"There must have been a phone line in the wall where we came in"

From: Kimberly Davidson

...it's too late to lose the weight you used to need to throw around...

And, the last, but not the least, from me (with some help of Ray B.):

9. WHAT is THE DESIGN...?

A few ideas we have so far:

From: James Hayward

I think whatever the design is it needs to be taked from a photo or something. Drawn designs can look very dodgy indeed. I can see Pink Floyd written in lightening as looking VERY tacky. < P> Some ideas though :

From: "Bleating and Babbling...."

OKay, here's my contribution to the T shirt front:

First it's got to have a bear on it (the one from High Hopes) to feature our fearless leader, bear. It could have one of the 'frightened ones' from the wall clutching a teddy bear and huddled in a cave, with several species of small furry animals around him. He's looking out the opening of the cave, and out there is the sun, being eclipsed, with a weird craft flying towards it (Point Me at the Sky, Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun).

The quote could be anything. How's 'bout:

"Echoes: All we need to do is make sure we keep talking."

or

"Tongue tied and twisted, just an earth-bound misfit, I" (doesn't mean much in terms of echoes, but it is a good tune) or anything...I don't know. I just like the design. Kinda like this:

From: Andre Terhorst

Design :

I would say more a symbol. E.g. The DSoTM-pyramid, the Shaking hands from WYWH, A Pig, or the logo used on the Division Bell etc. (I have a baseball-cap which has several of these logos on it)

What would be really cool is if there is a blinking LED on it as well :-).

From: Gerhard den Hollander

BTW, I hope to get a B&W scan of the artwork we saw in the Green dragon somewhere over the next week, if we could put something like that as a Tshirt design that would be nice.

From: Jon Finch

How 'bout:

Front: small '94 PF logo on left breast

Back: Across top "echoes@tcs.com"

Middle: A picture of a large floating pig tethered to the ground via wires going into a couple (2-3) computers (ie. networked).

Bottom:

From: Ray Botelho (this time i got you, Ray) and me, "an email animal"

Ray:

And for good accompanying artwork, I think the image of a satellite trasceiver dish "firing" a lightning bolt at a communications satellite would look pretty cool.

Me:

...and we could have the bolt, or actually, not the bolt, but the lightning-style thing, connecting dish with the satellite, and this lightning being shaped as "Pink Floyd"...

A few more from me: From: Alexander Dekhtyar

Well and I also had a crazy mess:

two men are shaking hands in front of two gigantic heads turned to each other. the background has pyramids, above them a pig is flying... the texture of the surface the men are standing is ASOS cover, and (the addition) there are growing walls (like in the What Shall We do piece of the movie), on both sides of the pic......

(-: (-:

And, while I was putting this all up -

Brian Jamison came with an idea...

Click to see the ascii pic of design

In place of the "#1" on the front and the "#2" on the back (opposite sides of a hole in the wall) could be just about anything. My suggestion is for #1 to be the silhouette drawing on the back cover of Piper, and the #2 to be just the eyes of TDB heads as they appear on the cover of TDB.

10. Which ECHOES request to put and how to arrange it...

Two ideas are present:

- echoes@fawnya.tcs.com

and

- echoserv@fawnya.tcs.com

The second, proposed by Ray O'Hara got support in recent posts because of the junk mail concern...

I can add top this the following:

To: echoes-request@fawnya.tcs.com

Subject: Subscribe

add-realtime echoes

buiK

(^- or whatever bear has as the quit word...)

If we are afraid of junk-mail - why don't we put the correct thing on the T-shirt ?

Battersea Power Station thread

I just got back from Pinky2 and had no trouble downloading the gif.

It is a really nice photo. I'm not sure that it will make a good image on a t-shirt, though. Maybe if there were also photos of each of the 4 (or should we say 5?) floyds, maybe one at each corner, unless the 5 are used, but I don't think it would be appropriate to use a photo of Syd along with the Battersea photo.

From: Alexander Dekhtyar

Replying to Kimberly:

Agreed here... It would take some additional work to make it into a Tee...

Well the good idea could be (it's a communist tradition, but it DOES fit the Battersea, since Animals is just about it) to blow up the station a bit and put pics of floyds on the wall(s) - as if their portraits are hanging there.... Should be pretty hard to do tho' ..

Jockie, do you have other pics of Battersea (on which walls are parallel to the camera ) ?

11. Special Comments and other T-shirt related STUFF ....

From James Hayword:
No-No's

Personally I don't want the words Pink Floyd on it. Anyone who is a Floyd fan will understand the design and quote and ask where you got the t-shirt. Those who aren't Floyd fans won't understand the shirt and ask what the f**k does that mean.

From: Jon Finch jfinch@eastman.com
Maybe it's just my local, but you don't walk around east texas with a t-shirt that say's fuck on it. People (neighbors) would shun me ;). Now you don't want me to have a piece of clothing that I can only wear in the back yard do you?
From: The Powers That Be (wfp8934@is2.NYU.EDU)
Oh, and I checked how much photos cost to put on shirts (in case we do the Bat. Power Stst.), and the price was $20, without lettering or anything, so we had better find someone who can do it themselves or very cheaply. I also was told photos don't come out well on black T's, so I don't know...

12. NOW THE LAST AND MOST IMPORTANT THING:

WHO WILL TAKE IT OVER ?

And so far we don't have volunteers......

BACK?

Comments ? Flames ? Suggestions ? Additions ? Opinions ?

Send me message to dekhtyar@cs.umd.edu

Cheers!
