Professional

I am (as is hopefully obvious by my departmental affiliation) a computer geek, but my interests extend to many other academic realms, such as math, physics, psychology, genetics, neuroscience, linguistics, and philosophy. If only I had the time to get deeply involved in them all!

Just about everything I can bother to write down about myself is available on the Research and Teaching pages, and in my CV (pdf). If you like what you see and/or need to know more, you're looking for this page.

Personal

I try to have at least three games of Wordscraper (formerly Scrabulous) going at all times; this is because words excite me.

I like to run, bike, lift weights, and play racquetball, and I occasionally still practice my old Tang Soo Do; I will whoop you with my bo staff, Donatello-style.

I have grapheme -> color synaesthesia.

A recently discovered passion of mine is live music; you can find me at the 9:30 Club, the Black Cat, or some other DC venue at least a couple times a month.

I routinely school people in Wii games like Mario Kart and Smash Bros.

At any given time, I'm always reading (at least) one fiction and one non-fiction book, in addition to textbooks and academic papers.

I will go far afield for high-grade sushi and high-quality beer.
