Greenbelt Park - HOLLY Picnic Area
6565 Greenbelt Rd (MD 193)

Barbeque, free food, volleyball!

DIRECTIONS To Greenbelt Park:

  1. Driving:
    • Follow Paint Branch Dr past lot 11 to 193.

    • Turn right at the light onto 193. You will be heading east.

    • Follow 193 for about 1.5 miles. You will pass the Giant in the Beltway Plaza, the overpass for Kenilworth (MD 201), then you will see the entrance to the park on your right. It is directly across from the TGI Friday's on the left.

    • If you reach the underpass where 193 goes under the Beltway, or (even worse) the entrance to 295 (Baltimore-Washington Pkwy), you've gone too far.

    • Once you find the main road leading into the park, follow it until you get to a stop sign at a T-stop.

    • Make a left.

    • The HOLLY picnic area will be on your right-hand side, at a large bend in the road. Park anywhere in the parking lot.

    • Click here for a detailed map of the park (pdf file).

    • You can go to mapquest if you think you need it.

  2. Car Pooling:

We are organizing car pools to the park, one leaving at 4pm, another leaving at 5pm. Email ruggero (ruggero@cs) if you either 1) are willing to drive other people to the park or 2) need a ride to the park. Note that driving someone to the park implies that you will drive them back to the department, or at least

  3. Metrobus:

The C2 bus (which has a stop on Route 1 and Campus Dr) stops at Greenbelt Road across Walker Dr. The stop is 200 feet (60 meters) away from the entrance of the park. This is the best option if you want to use public transportation. I think the fare is $1.10 and you need exact change.

  4. University Shuttle:

The best Shuttle option is taking Greenbelt up to stop #3 (Greenbelt Rd and 62nd Ave) and walk on Greenbelt Road in direction east up to the entrance of the park. It's a 0.7 mile (1.1 km) walk. You could probably carpool more easily than take the shuttle.

NOTE: Greenbelt is a National Park, complete with Rangers who periodically check up on things. Absolutely no alcohol allowed this year. Sorry, guys :(
