Executive Council

What we are about...
A Tasty Pizza FREE PIZZA !!!

The Executive Council is a committee of 10 graduate students who are elected by their peers. EC members represent the graduate student body on various issues of concern to grad students. We also coordinate graduate student social, i.e. free food events, coordinate the t-shirt committee, and set policy for the use of the grad student lounge. The EC receives a budget of around $1000 from the Department for grad student activities (to which we invite the faculty and staff, of course). Activities this past year included a Halloween Party with a costume contest, Department Holidays Party (an evening of great international food and socializing), the Spring Cookout, and Movie Nights. In the past, activities have also been held in conjunction with grad students in the Institute for Systems Research. Most events feature some variation on the key theme of "free food". In addition, meetings have been sponsored by the EC to solicit grad student input on the proposed changes to the comprehensive exam system and changes in lounge use policy. The EC passes student input along to the graduate program administration and works with them to effect changes.

Minutes from the (aperiodic) EC meetings are posted to csd.grad. Anyone who wants to propose an activity, etc. can either contact an EC member and/or send mail to exec-council@cs. The EC can also advise and assist if you have a problem.

The 1995 CS Department T-Shirt

1995 T-Shirts

Each year a T-Shirt committe is formed to oversee the design and sales of the annual CS Department T-Shirt. A design contest (with a cash prize $$$) is held in the Fall, so you can exercise your right brain, too. (This past year Dave Rager took the prize!) The T-Shirts are sold in the Spring and early Fall and come in a variety of eye-pleasing hues (buy two, buy three, buy seven to give as gifts!). The profits go into the grad student funds administered by the Exec Council. Previously they were used to buy outdoor volleyball equipment for grad student use.

There are still some T-Shirts left for only $8. Contact Evan Rosser for more information. Don't miss your chance to own a 1995 Department T-Shirt.

1996 T-Shirt Contest

It's time for this year's T-Shirt Contest. Don't forget to vote for your favorite submission by Friday, April 12th.
