Getting started

  • What are the tasks people want to accomplish?
  • What supporting steps are necessary (logging in and out, etc).
  • What are the steps for accomplishing each task?

Card Sorting

Card sorting is a technique to organize information for a user interface (it's used in other things, too, but we'll focus on UX/UI). Each card gets a piece of functionality or a piece of content. Users sort the cards into groups which helps you see how people think about how the content should be organized.

You can do open card sorting, where people create their own categories, or closed card sorting where people start with pre-determined categories. The sessions can be one-on-one or run in groups. Your job is to observe and ask questions when needed (NOT to tell people how to do it).

Users should create categories and sort the cards under each category they create.

High Fidelity Prototyping

There are lots of apps that can help you design higher fidelity prototypes if you don't want to or can't program. Invision is a great one.
