MSWE 609   Technology Transfer Paper

Due: October 6, 1999

Choose some new technology for improving software development. You are to 
research how that technology matured, was evaluated, and adopted by industry.
(For those that had Dr. Zelkowitz in MSWE 607, this paper is similar, but not
the same, as the paper from that course. This paper should represent new
research on the topic.)

Yoour paper should address the following points:

a. What is the name of the tool or technique that you studied?

b. In about one paragraph, what is the purpose of this tool or technique?
What attribute of development was the tool or technique supposed to
improve (e.g., development time, error rates, quality, productivity, ...).

c. Who initially developed the technology, where and when? That is, trace back
its initial concept in the literature. What previous technoloogy is this based 
upon?

d. How was the technology explored? Who experimented with it, modified it,
and tested it? What organizations and people used it?

e. How was the technology evaluated? What experiments were performed by the
developer to show that the technology was effective? What experiments were
performed by others to show effectiveness? What data is available for
understanding the use of the technology? Was this evaluation appropriate?

f. When was the technology a mature technology? Why do you claim that date?
